Practical Raku Training

Now is the perfect time for your team to start learning this hyper-expressive and practical language.

We are offering a one day introductory workshop for your team to get hands on with Raku.

What is the format of the workshop?

We visit your workplace and facilitate a practical, hands on workshop over one day.

Participants write small utility programs in Raku which they can use to help their work flow. Short presentations are followed by interesting pair programming tasks. Participants learn by coding Raku, discussing and exploring.

What will the team learn?

By the end of the workshop participants will have written practical Raku programs they can put to use in their daily work.

The tasks will touch on: Perl 5 -> Raku, sigils, twigils, OO, roles, hashes, arrays, lists, phasers, multi-dispatch, smart matching, IO, regexen, grammars, operators, meta-operators and hyperthreading.

The power, expressiveness and practicality of Raku will be apparent to participants. They will start to see opportunities to solve some of their current problems with Raku and ways to further their learning.

What do the team need to bring along?

An open mind, curiosity about Raku, and be ready to have fun. Each programming pair need at least one Internet connected laptop with terminal access.

How much does it cost?

£ 250 per participant (inc VAT) with a minimum of six participants.

Who is leading the workshop?

Nigel Hamilton is a former university lecturer in computer science with over 25 years experience as a Perl programmer. He is passionate about solving problems with Perl and excited by the power, potential and expressivity of Raku.
